Little fire ants, big problem

the big island of hawaii has seen a quick spread of a fairly new invasive species and that is a huge nuisance and puts agriculture at risk. The little fire ant (LFA) is so tiny and prolific that it’s starting to spread to other islands. The bites are awful for such a tiny thing as anyone who lives here knows. So what can we do about them? Check out this video on the LFA to learn more!

Welcome to Kumukahi!

Kumukahi was originally called Polestar (Gardens) and was a Yogananda community. It was purchased by a group of ragtag amazing humans from all over the place who came together very fortuitously with similar ideals. Our intention is to build an extremely stable, fair, open and giving community based on going back to old-school methods of village living in abundance coupled with bringing in new techniques for managing people, places, earth and more.

Our group has diverse skills that fit together like the best played game of Tetris. We’re so excited to be working together and stepping into this big adventure. It’s going to be a lot of work and a lot of fun!

Follow along this blog to see how you build a community from the ground up. Everything from starting a farm and canning, to doing power and water maintenance, to fostering non-violent communication. This will be the journal of our journey. Let’s do this thing!
